The Club ‘Pansy’ nearing
retirement age holds up the traffic on an early spring passenger day.
This locomotive, built by Club members, now lives in the Crawley Museum
situated in the Park.

Two Members struggle to
get the grate fitted on our older ‘Simplex’. Built by a Club member
many years ago, it is on its second boiler and is used most weekends.
|
On a fine summer’s day,
Bob adjusts the injector of this Black Five. This Don Young design is a
powerful engine and a pleasure to drive.
|
Secretary John puts our
new ‘Simplex’ through its paces. A recent addition to our MPD, this
‘Simplex’ was bought by the Club as a part assembled loco and a box of
bits and finished by a member.
|
The Chairman’s ‘Speedy’,
a regular performer, is being driven by his son with daughter-in-law as
passenger. The owner reckons this engine has done several thousand
miles!
|
For several years we have
had a party of children from the Chenobyl area visit us for an
afternoon of rides. This picture was taken during the tea break, hence
no drivers! The BR mainline in the background carries 16 trains an
hour.
|
This ‘Rushton’ was
purchased for the owner’s garden railway and is being tested on our
track. Several members have taken children to this garden railway and
they delight in driving these small locomotives.
|
Another ‘Simplex’, we
have at least six in the Club, has two of the driver’s grandchildren as
passengers and is seen crossing the traverser in the steaming bay area.
|
This fine B1 is being
driven at some speed by its builder on its second outing to our track.
The speed limit is 8mph but on a non-passenger day, Wednesday mornings,
it's up to the driver!
|
Another shot of the Black
Five, this time being driven by a GWR enthusiast who did admit that
maybe Stanier had copied the best bits from the GWR designs.
|
Here the GWR driver is
driving his own ‘Tich’, one of a pair built together. We are afraid we
do not know what happened to the leading loco and dare not ask!
|
Crawley hosted the
‘Southern Rally’ in 1996; the ‘Leader’ was out on one of its earliest
of runs, hence the grey primer. Eventually we got 27 passengers on
every coach we could muster and it went like ‘a bat out of hell’!
|
The Club ‘Simplicity’
running a ‘Party Special’ on a Saturday afternoon. This engine is the
only one that children are allowed to drive on their own. Its maximum
speed of 5mph is considered safe enough with no other traffic on the
track.
|
Husband and wife team,
David and Jean running their Sweet Pea ‘Little Genie’ on its second
time out. Jean is our only lady member and makes the most wonderful
Bread Pudding.
|
On a wet winter morning
Bob brought out his GWR combination of ex-steam railcar and 14xx for a
run. This ride-on coach is for a proposed garden railway. Behind can be
seen the Crampton being stoked up by its builder John. Note the empty
park in the background.
|
On its first day in working service, driven by David who did most of the work, (Bob did the bogies), A rebuilt Warship is resplendent if the new colour scheme, but with the existing name and commemoration plates to Roger Parsons, the original owner, still in place.
|
LMS 6202 'Turbomotive' is a new locomotive on the Goffs Park Railway this year. A battery powered tender does the pushing and it can cope with the passenger loads all afternoon. The driver here is Mark 2, waiting for the next 7 or 8 bodies.
