About UsThe Crawley Model Engineers were founded in 1962 by a group of engineers working in one of the factories in Crawley. Shortly after its formation, the Club approached the local Council for a site in Goffs Park on which to build a high level track. Permission was granted and an ‘up and down’ track of about 750 feet was built. Two years later an extended section was opened to give a complete circuit of 1250 feet. This required two cuttings and help was given by the Council with a digger and a dumper truck. The railway has continued to run since that date, the original railway sleeper bed being replaced with custom made girders. The aluminium track has a ruling grade of about 1 in 100 with two short sections of 1 in 80. The Goffs Park Light Railway is operated by the Crawley Model Engineers and provides Public Passenger rides every Sunday afternoon from Easter to October between the hours of 2 and 5 o'clock. Goffs Park Light Railway is situated about 1 mile west of Crawley High Street, alongside the Crawley/Horsham mainline: postcode RH11 8PB. Click here for link to Streetmap. The 1250 feet high-level circuit has 5 and 3.5 inch capability and a limited section of 2.5 inch. The fare is 30 pence and the ride takes two minutes, four club locomotives and fifteen passenger cars are available for use, with preference being given to Members locomotives, of which there are 32. Non-passenger running days are Wednesday and Sunday mornings from 10 am until 1pm and all are welcome.
